Maintenance Engineer Intern

Overview

I spent five weeks at a Philips Respironics service center, helping keep the medical equipment that patients rely on in working order. Most days were at the main service center repairing and maintaining devices like EverFlo oxygen concentrators; other days I was out in the field, visiting hospitals across Mumbai alongside senior technicians.

What I Did

• Service Center Repairs: Assisted with the repair and maintenance of medical equipment, including EverFlo oxygen concentrators, at the main service center
• On-Site Hospital Visits: Traveled to hospitals across Mumbai with senior technicians to inspect and service surgical machines in operating rooms and ventilators in general wards
• Learning by Doing: Followed the seniors' lead on-site and picked up practical, hands-on skills through observation and direct support
• Professional Conduct: Learned how to carry myself appropriately across very different work environments, from the workshop to sensitive clinical settings

Takeaway

This was my first real taste of a professional workplace. Working next to experienced technicians taught me how to learn on the job — watching closely, asking the right questions, and stepping in to help — and how to adapt my conduct to whatever environment I was in. That mindset still shapes how I approach new problems today.
